Understanding IRS Notices for Sarasota Taxpayers

Got a letter from the IRS? Learn what the most common notices mean, which ones require urgent action, and how Sarasota residents should respond.

Critical Notices

CP14 is the first balance-due notice. CP504 warns of levy intent. Letter 1058/LT11 is the Final Notice of Intent to Levy with your 30-day CDP hearing right. The Notice of Deficiency (90-day letter) is your last chance to petition Tax Court. Each of these has a deadline that must not be missed.

How to Respond

Read the notice carefully, identify the deadline, reference the notice number when responding, and use certified mail. For complex notices involving significant amounts, contact a tax attorney before responding. Many Sarasota taxpayers make their situation worse by responding incorrectly or ignoring notices entirely.

Every IRS notice deserves a response. Ignoring them is the most expensive mistake a taxpayer can make.
